Aspectos reprodutivos do caranguejo guaia, Menippe nodifrons Stimpson (Crustacea, Decapoda, Xanthidae) da Baía de Sepetiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil Zoologia
Oshiro,Lidia Miyako Yoshii.
The objective of this work was to get some knowledge about the Guaia stone crab reproduction. The sampling was monthly obtained in the intertidal zone at the Ibicuí Rock Beach. The 638 crabs were collected from August, 1995 to March, 1997. In this total amount 293 were males and 345 (41 ovigerous crabs) were female crabs. Biometrical data informing the total width and length were taken, and gonadal stage was checked macroscopically. The total male width range was between 7.9 to 67.1 mm, while in the female crabs it was between 4.4 to 79.3 mm. The female ones were bigger than the male ones. The ovigerous female crabs were found mainly on Spring and Summer and it probably indicates the reproduction season. The carapace width range of the ovigerous female...

Hexapanopeus manningi, a new xanthid crab (Crustacea, Decapoda, Xanthidae) from Brazil Zoologia
Sankarankutty,Cheruparambil; Ferreira,Alexander Cesar.
A new species of xanthid crab, Hexapanopeus manningi, closely related to H. caribbaeus Stimpson, 1871 collected from mangrove areas in the estuaries of Rio Grande do Norte. Brazil is described. This is the sixth species of Hexapanopeus Rathbun, 1898 from Brazil. Distinguishing features of the species are also mentioned to facilitate its separation from closely related species.

Panopeus bermudensis Benedict & Rathbun, novo registro de Brachyura (Decapoda, Xanthidae) para o litoral do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil Zoologia
Santos,Ana Lucia F.; Rieger,Paulo J..
It is registered for the first time in the Rio Grande do Sul coast, the crab Panopeus bermudensis Benedict & Rathbun, 1891, which previous southern limit of distribution was at Santa Catarina, and now it is extended to the Rio Grande do Sul state coast line. These crabs were colected at Cassino beach in Rio Grande city in midle of trash lycd with the high tide.

Platypodiella georgei spec. nov. (Brachyura: Xanthidae), a new crab from the island of St. Helena, South Atlantic Ocean, with notes on the genus Platypodiella Guinot, 1967 Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den; Türkay, M..
A new species of Platypodiella Guinot, 1967, from the island of St. Helena, P. georgei spec, nov., is described. This species was found associated with encrusting species of Palythoa Lamouroux, 1816 (Zoantharia). Ample evidence is presented that both the eastern Atlantic P. picta (A. Milne-Edwards, 1869) and the western Atlantic P. spectabilis (Herbst, 1794) also live habitually associated with encrusting species of Palythoa, rarely with other zoantharians. For each of the two East-Pacific members of the genus, P. rotundata (Stimpson, 1860) and P. gemmata (Rathbun, 1902), there is at least one rather detailed published record suggesting that these species too associate with Palythoa. Thus, this habit would seem to go for all five members of the genus. Data...

[Proceedings of the 5th Symposium on Mesozoic and Cenozoic Decapod Crustaceans, Krakow, Poland, 2013: A tribute to Pál Mihály Müller / R.H.B. Fraaije, M. Hyžný, J.W.M. Jagt, M. Krobicki & B.W.M. van Bakel (eds.)]: Etisus evamuellerae, a new xanthid crab (Decapoda, Brachyura) from the Middle Miocene of Austria and Hungary Naturalis
Hyžný, M.; Bakel, B.W.M. van; Guinot, D..
On the basis of several carapaces, a new species of xanthid crab, Etisus evamuellerae, is described from the Middle Miocene of the Vienna (Austria) and Great Hungarian basins. It differs from the coeval xanthids, Xantho moldavicus and Pilodius vulgaris, in having a distinctly protruding front and comparatively longer carapace. Contrary to those two species, the new one makes up for just a small percentage in the decapod crustacean assemblages studied.

Progress on the fossil Xanthoidea MacLeay, 1838 (Decapoda, Brachyura) Naturalis
Schweitzer, Carrie E..
Identification and utilization of proxy characters in extant families has been accomplished with success for fossil members of the Calappidae, Hepatidae, Necrocarcinidae, Matutidae, and Hexapodidae. The fossil and extant Raninidae have been revised using primarily hard-part morphology preserved in the fossil record although formal designation of “proxy characters” has not occurred. Hard-part characters can also be used to differentiate among members of the Atelecyclidae and the Cheiragonidae. Thus, the method of using proxy characters is demonstrably suitable for application to a difficult group like the Xanthoidea.

Proposta de classificação da família Xanthidae (Crustacea, Decapoda, Brachyura) através da taxonomia numérica Zoologia
Coelho,Petrônio Alves; Coelho Filho,Petrônio Alves.
Several families were added in the past in order to constitute the Xanthidae, but the boundaries between Xanthidae, Parthenopidae and Goneplacidae were diluted, and the classification of some genera doubtful. By this reason was made the analysis of a typical genus of each subfamily occurring in Brazil. 50 characters were selected and coded as (0) for absence and (1) for presence. The data matrix was analysed by computer programs NTSYS and NMIX. The phenetic analysis shows the Xanthidae as a good family, but the cladistic one (Wagner tree) split them in four families: Carpiliidae, Xanthidae (with the subfamilies Menippinae, Platyxanthinae, Xanthinae and Eucratopsinae), Eriphiidae and Pilumnidae (with the subfamilies Trapeziinae and Pilumninae)....
